You might think these two questions are the same, however they will produce two completely different outcomes. Losing weight will make you a smaller version of your self, while the other will completely transform your body. And the key ingredient that separates the two outcomes? Strength training. Only strength training has the power to ensure you lose the right kind of weight…..fat. Without strength training, your body will shed all kinds of body mass. It will burn fat, muscle, and even connective tissues. If you don’t use your muscles, you will lose them, especially when you’re eating in a calorie deficit. Think of the person that lost a lot of weight with restrictive eating (drinking shakes, etc) hardly no exercise and ended up a thinner version of themselves with loose skin. Which look are you going for?

If you prioritize strength training in your fitness program, you will not only lose weight, you will also change your body composition. The ratio of muscle to fat on your body will increase. Your body will build and maintain muscle easier and burn stored body fat. Not only that, but each pound of muscle that strength training builds will help you burn an additional 6 calories per day. And this happens at all hours of the day, while you are sitting at work, relaxing at home and yes, even while you’re sleep. Strength training will not only help change your physique, but actually maintain it for the rest of your life. All it takes is a couple of strength training sessions per week PLUS cleaner eating at least 80-90% of the week, to make a difference. Strength Training is easily one of the best investments you can make in your future success to look good naked! I’m still a work in progress, however, considering I’ve been strength training for less than 6 months, I’m proud of my results!
